White Water Sports, Samoens, French Alps

Running through Samoens, French Alps and meandering its way down the valley, the Giffre provides a great source of exhilarating water sports based entertainment during the summer holidays. With the Absolute Alpine chalets located so close to the village centre, the suppliers of these fun-filled water sports adventures are at your fingertips.

Whatever your vessel as you race down the rapids and drift through the narrow Gorge de Tines with vertical sides that seem to almost to touch each other high above you, your day in a wetsuit will be an enjoyable one.

As with all activities during your stay at Absolute Alpine, we are happy to offer advice and assistance with booking water sports to ensure you get the most out of your holiday in Samoens. We can also offer packed lunches and, for those evenings of post-activity exhaustion, catering and washing up! Please feel free to contact us for further information.

Rafting

You can take to the water with up to 7 friends in one of these seemingly indestructible inflatable rafts. As you travel the 7km from Sixt, bouncing down rapids and paddling furiously to keep the best line, your professional skipper and guide will ensure that your fun and safety are maximised. (See below for typical costs)

Canorafts

If you prefer a more intimate relationship with the water, these smaller 2-man inflatables have you sitting much lower in the water where the action feels even more intense. As with the rafting, highly trained guides will be on hand to coach you through the walls of white water on your way to Samoens. (See below for typical prices)

Hydrospeed

If the Canoraft is still too removed from the white water for you, why not do away with an inflatable all together. As you accelerate head first down the river wearing flippers and holding a large float in front of you, nothing but your fast reactions and leg kicking will steer you down the rapids. (See below for typical prices)

Canyoning

The sport of canyoning involves following a river through a gorge as it works its way to the valley floor. This is far from a stroll along a gentle river bank though as abseiling, climbing, sliding and jumping are all needed along the way. The adrenalin will definitely be flowing as your guide has you abseiling under waterfalls or taking a leap of faith into a plunge pool below. There are various canyoning sites in the area and transport is usually included. (See below for typical prices)

Caving & potholing

The limestone of Samoens is host to some of the most impressive cave systems in the world. The Jean Bernard cave, with entrances on the slopes above Samoens, is one of the deepest known caves in the world (up until 1980, it was considered the deepest) and the region has an endless labyrinth of networks to explore. If you're keen to get a taste of this underground experience, guided trips with all the necessary safety equipment are available. (See below for typical prices)

If you can't choose between the many adventure sports on offer, why not go for a multi-activity package, available for a day, weekend or week.

These indicative prices include all safety equipment, briefing and transport. We know many of the suppliers so please do feel free to contact us for advice or assistance with booking.
