Samoens - traditionally more inviting

In the heart of France’s Haute Savoie, at the foot of the Grand Massif ski area, Samoens is probably one of France’s most picturesque mountain villages. A far cry from the purpose-built ski stations of recent years, Samoens is a beautiful old farming village steeped in history. It retains an authentic Savoyard charm and a family-friendly, intimate feel.

Historic stone buildings - testament to the village’s history as a centre of stonemasonry - characterise the old part of Samoens, while new additions tend to be timber-framed, tastefully-designed luxury chalets.

Daily life revolves around a picturesque market place, whose centrepiece is an imposing lime tree, Le Gros Tilleul, planted in 1438. The restaurants, bars and cafés are more typical of a French village than a modern ski resort. The quality of the food and wine on offer is excellent, both in the village and up on the slopes, while the ambience is informal, relaxed and inviting.

Recently awarded the title of Best Small Resort (Europe) by the prestigious Hardy’s Skiing and Snowboarding Guide 2009, Samoens has long been a favourite with the French. A small, but growing number of discerning British skiers, walkers, mountaineers and outdoor types are just beginning to discover its many charms.

We hope you’ll join them.
