Off-piste skiing Samoëns

Off-piste Skiing in Samoëns – a powder paradise

Samoëns sits within the extensive Grand Massif ski region, the fourth largest ski area in France. This impressive ski domain boasts over 265km of pistes (interestingly, this statistic hasn’t changed in at least seven years despite the creation of new pistes almost annually!)

Despite being a fantastic all round resort, particularly good for families (see more on family-friendliness in our previous post) one of the strengths of the Grand Massif and Samoëns is its off-piste skiing and boarding.

An off-piste adventure

This winter season has started brilliantly with an abundance of snow (250cm on the upper slopes – the best week 2 snow level in over eight years!) and we took to the slopes today to find some of that wonderful powder.

Sometimes the best spots are worth a little walk…

Family walking in Samoens – autumn fun!

Family walking in Samoens

So we’ve seen snow on the higher summits for a few weeks now (and even down to 1,200-1,300m on a couple of occasions – skiing in Samoens should be good this winter!) although the walking season definitely isn’t over yet. With such breathtaking autumn colours, it’s an incredible time of year to enjoy some alpine outings.

Enjoy autumn in the Alps!

Can The Samoëns Snow Get Any Better?

This season has started with truly epic snow conditions! As you’ll have seen from recent posts (And it’s yet another big powder day), the snow levels in Samoëns and the Grand Massif have been staggering this year.

The Flaine Plateau

With well over 3 metres of snow already at the top lifts and 150cms at Samoëns 1600, we thought that our luck might be running out… It turns out the snow gods have other ideas with another day of constant snow last week!

Quiet Pistes and Sunshine in the Grand Massif

It’s been another fabulous day in Samoëns and the Grand Massif with clear blue skies and fantastic snow conditions. The pistes were incredibly empty and the snow consistent and responsive throughout. I spent most of the day enjoying Flaine with friends.
