Are you suffering from beach boredom?

Whilst there is nothing wrong with lazing on a beach with a strawberry daiquiri and a good book, after a few years of holidaying in beach resorts you may start to feel that all your holidays start to blend into one. You know the food’s good and you’re guaranteed sunshine but did you really come home feeling like you’d had a break from ‘the norm’ – or was your holiday ‘the norm’? Did the kids come back bursting with stories to tell their grandparents or was there nothing new worth sharing?

Try finding a spot on this beach!

If your photo albums are starting to look like you’ve spent half your family life on a Spanish beach then it might be time to try something new.

Of course we’re being a little cheeky here as obviously we’re more than a little biased towards this stunning alpine environment that we’ve come to call home, but if you’ve never been to the mountains in the summer we think we’re entitled to give you a little gentle persuasion as we really think you’re missing out. Talking to our ski guests we find many are tempted to try it, especially after seeing pictures of the spectacular scenery, but rarely are they brave enough to step out of their holiday comfort zone and actually book a trip.

So to help you make up your own mind we’ve put together a few mountain holiday truths to temp you into the great unknown…

It’s just gorgeous!
Fans of Lord of the Rings will not be disappointed. For jaw dropping scenery you can’t beat the emerald green meadows, crystal clear lakes and gushing waterfalls of our alpine mountains and valleys which are home to exciting wildlife like eagles, marmots, ibex and chamois.

Trekking in the French Alps near Samoens

There’ll be no complaining of boredom from the children
Biking, rafting, canyoning, climbing, paragliding, swimming…whether your kids prefer to be in the sky, in the water or on two wheels, there are loads of activities to keep them happy. Samoens also boasts excellent facilities for your little ones, including bouncy castles, playgrounds, pony rides and ropes courses. Our local activity companies are English speaking and fantastic with families, check out our top ten family activities in Samoens for more inspiration.

It’s cheaper than a health spa
A health boosting holiday doesn’t have to mean checking into an expensive spa resort, you and your family will get everything you need from a rejuvenating break in the mountains. A week of inspiring scenery, lots of fresh air, good food and good sleep will have you coming home with a spring in your step. Plus, these days with such increased screen time it’s always good to set the example and give your kids the opportunity to try new activities and get active away from the iPad, smart phone or TV.

You’ll still get plenty of time to relax (we promise!)
Take a book to the lake or local pool, have a family picnic on the mountain or take it easy in the hot tub; a mountain holiday can be as active or relaxing as you want. More chilled than nearby Chamonix or Morzine, which attract more extreme adrenaline junkies, laidback Samoens has all the activities but a much more chilled vibe. You’ll find a pleasant mix of families, walkers and locals in the village.

It’s hotter than you think!
If you think the mountains are wet and cold in the summer, think again. Sun worshippers won’t be disappointed, we get plenty of sunshine, particularly in the valley where we are sheltered from the wind. So don’t forget to bring your sunscreen for your high-altitude adventure!

You can bung your bags (and the kids) in the car and drive
We’re around an eight hour drive from Calais so if you like to keep the freedom your car brings on holiday or simply prefer the ease of packing everything you need in the car, then an alpine mountain holiday is a good option. Alternatively if you prefer to fly you can be here in a couple of hours from most UK airports with flights taking around an hour to Geneva and the resort transfer just 1 hour.

Food glorious food
Whether you choose to book on a catered or self-catered basis you will certainly be well fed on your mountain break in Samoens. Visit the vibrant weekly market for seasonal fruit and vegetables, cheese, meats and wine to cook up your own culinary storm or let our team do it for you in one of our catered chalets.
