Exciting Chalet Changes for 2013/14

Exciting Changes for Winter 2013/14

We’ve been working very hard over this last inter-season to improve the Grande Ourse and offer you an even better chalet holiday here in Samoëns! This winter, we think we are delivering our best chalet improvements yet!

Winter has arrived

There is plenty already to be excited about with the snow falling in the village! Read on to find out about our chalet news too…

Even More Fun in the Chalet

We are always keen to offer the best chalet experience to all of our guests, young and old. This year we are bringing a big improvement for the whole family to our Samoëns chalet La Grande Ourse. Since the end of a busy and fun summer season, we have been working hard on a number of big changes at the chalet.

We have moved the boot room and the adjacent store room to the building next to the chalet – the boot warmer is still there to ensure toasty toes in the morning! This has given us a fantastic free space that we decided would be best used as a games room.

Winter has arrived

Our comfy living area remains as welcoming as ever with the large sofas, open fire and family entertainment (UK TV, Wii, films on DVD and Apple TV) but we’ve now got a space perfect for those wanting to chat about the day’s mountain fun whilst enjoying a game of darts or pool.

Our new slate bed pool table is arriving next week and we can’t wait to give it a thorough testing before the start of the season!

The Making of a Chalet Games Room

There was quite a lot of work involved in making the former car port into an enclosed space for the boot room and chalet store room, and a similar amount of effort to make our lovely new games room appear in the space left behind.

Loving our mountain environment and greenness in general, we reused whatever we could and made sure that wastage was kept to a minimum. Wood, doors, light fittings, stud work and insulation were all reused where possible. Even the inevitable offcuts served their purpose making a kindling store (and filling it) along with some funky furniture.

Take a look at our recycled snowboard bench – made entirely from bits that would otherwise have been heading for the tip! We’ve got some retired skis that are also going to feature and are on the search for a couple extra snowboards for even more creative “upcyclying”.

Winter has arrived

Book Soon! Don’t Miss Out!

Many of our bookings have arrived particularly early this year and we only have a couple of opportunities left to join us in La Grande Ourse. With its new games room, these weeks won’t last long! Visit our Winter Prices & Availability page for more info.

We will post some more games room photos as soon as the pool table arrives…

Until next time!
